I am a full spectrum doula, spanning birth, postpartum, miscarriage, termination, yoga instructor, maternity stylist, professionally trained chef and a mother of two happy kids.
I grew up on an island in Washington State. At 20 I got a one way ticket to Paris and stayed for 3 years, where I attended Le Cordon Bleu culinary school while working a an au pair.
I have always known that I have wanted kids since I was one. After Paris I attended Parsons in NYC, and then worked as a stylist up until the birth of my first child.
Craving space, nature and a more relaxed lifestyle brought us to Westport CT, home for Layla, Auden and our fur baby Bardot.

As a child I have always known I wanted to be a mother; as a mother I aspire to be a part of something bigger and help others. Becoming a doula was a natural evolution and is Such a rewarding experience.
After looking back at my own birthing experiences and talking to friends, I am seeing the huge need for doulas for every woman and their families. The entire journey from pregnancy through motherhood is a wild ride of emotions. It is one of the most significant of our lifetimes and deserves to be cocooned with support.
In my doula training I was drawn to the method of Hypnobirthing. Hypnobirthing is a philosophy, technique and guide that prepares for birth in a peaceful and as gentle of a method as possible. I Love the simplicity it provides, and teaches you to follow and trust your own body for a positive and confident birth expierence; whether the client chooses to birth in a hospital, birthing center or at home.
The concept I find SO fascinating about hypnobirthing is the concept behind the FTP- fear, tension and pain cycle. The more fearful you are about birth the more tense your muscles will be, thus the more pain you will expierence. This can be removed. How you ask? The number one hormone at play when giving birth is oxytosin. It is the feel good hormone and the one fueling labor in the first place! Every contraction is caused by oxytocin (so much so that Pitocin is the synthetic form.) Labor is naturally designed to feel good.
The other hormone often associated with birth (but quite unwelcomed in a positive birth story) is adrenaline. Adrenaline is released when we are anxious, stressed or frightned- think flight or flight. Which is why even thinking about birth in a negative way will cause a surge of these unhelpful hormones.
The idea is that when the body and mind are in a complete relaxed state, birth can happen more quickly and painlessly because the body doesb't fight the natural process.
